About this game

You're Amy Wilson, concierge aboard a five-masted luxury clipper in the Caribbean, when the world ashore starts to die. Keep the plague out of the cabins, ration what's left, and outlast the billionaires, officers and crew fighting to control the last safe ship at sea.

Opening scenario

The Feed Goes Dark

Two days out of St. Lucia, the satellite news cuts out mid-broadcast, and a frantic wife reaches your desk to tell you about her husband's bite.

Where you start

Your setup

DAY 1, 7:40 PM, Grand Atrium of the SV Aurelia, at 14°N 63°W under full sail, heading northwest for St. Barts with a warm trade wind. It's cocktail hour. A string quartet plays near the bar, about forty guests in evening wear mingle under the chandeliers, and the lilies at the concierge desk have just been replaced.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED: For two days the atrium's big lounge screen has shown CNN reports of "violent outbreaks" in Lagos, Mumbai and Miami. Ten minutes ago, during a live shot of a Miami ER with screaming in the background, the satellite feed froze and went to SIGNAL LOST. The guest Wi-Fi died with it. The room has gone uneasy, with nervous laughter and phones held up to find a signal.

AT THE DESK RIGHT NOW: DONNA HALLOWAY (64, Ohio, pearls, mascara running) is gripping the marble. Her husband HAL was bitten on the forearm by a "drunk" in the Castries market on departure day. He hid it and bandaged it himself. Since lunch he's had a fever of 104, chills, and black veins creeping up his arm. He's in Suite 214, getting confused and refusing the doctor because he "doesn't want a fuss." She's begging Amy to come. HIDDEN: Hal will die and turn tonight, within roughly 2–3 hours if no one intervenes. Donna has been cleaning the wound with her bare hands.

NEARBY: COLE BRENNAN is leaning by a pillar in a dark blazer, earpiece in, patient. A minute ago he politely asked Amy for "a copy of the full guest and crew manifest, with occupations. Mr. Kessler's request." He's waiting for an answer. HIDDEN: Kessler's satellite phone still works. He knows Miami has fallen and is quietly sorting the ship into useful people and dead weight.

ELSEWHERE: GORDON PRUITT is loudly demanding a Wi-Fi refund at the bar. Captain VAAL and First Officer ASHBY are on the bridge, where the radio room is catching garbled maydays. Dr. RAMAN is in the infirmary on Deck 2, unaware of Hal. Bosun RUIZ is on the Main Deck trimming sails for the night.

WITHIN AMY'S REACH: desk phone, guest-services PA microphone, concierge tablet (with the manifest), master keycard, radio handset, pocket notebook.

Things you can try

  • Go see the bitten man in Suite 214
  • Stall Brennan on the manifest
  • Page Dr. Raman, quietly
  • Radio the bridge for the captain
