What is an AI roleplay game

An AI roleplay game is a video game where the world, characters, and story are run by a large language model rather than scripted in advance. You play by typing what your character does. The AI plays everything else, the NPCs, the environment, the rules, the consequences. The format is text first because the AI's strength is language. There is no renderer to constrain what the AI can describe and no asset pipeline to slow the iteration loop. The genre is closest in spirit to a tabletop RPG with an infinitely patient game master who never sleeps and never gets tired of running your campaign.

What separates a good AI roleplay game from a bad one

State that persists

If the AI forgets what you did three turns ago, the genre collapses. Good AI roleplay games track inventory, relationships, wounds, and consequences explicitly. The AI sees a structured snapshot of the world's state on every turn rather than relying on a context window full of text.

Worlds, not personas

An AI roleplay game runs a world with rules. The AI plays every NPC and narrates every scene inside it. Compare with character chat tools where the AI plays a single persona. Different format, different expectation, different result.

Time to first move

A good AI roleplay game drops you into a moment, not a lobby. No tutorial. No long character creation. The opening scene is already happening when you arrive.

Replayability

Different choices, different outcomes. The AI improvises against the world's rules rather than following a fixed script. Two players starting the same AI roleplay game will end up in completely different stories by turn 30.

Where Larping fits in the AI roleplay game category

We are the curated end of the category. Hand authored worlds, each with their own rules and tone, each tuned for the AI to do its best work in that genre. We are not the place to come for a sandbox where any premise is valid. We are the place to come for a world that is already coherent and waiting for you to step into it. The seven worlds we ship today span horror, survival, fantasy, strategy, and noir. We add new ones regularly.
