Last Girl at Hollow Lake
You should have gone to the beach. Now stay alive until 6:14 AM — and drag as many of them out with you as you can.
About this game
Eight seniors, one postcard cabin, spring break at Hollow Lake. Four men wanted for murder walked away from an overturned prison transport nine miles up the ridge road — and the one who does the talking has a very particular hatred for blonde cheerleaders. Sunrise is at 6:14 AM.
Opening scenario
Golden Hour on the Dock
The last warm hour of the day at the lake house — until Devon comes back from the turnoff saying there's a state cruiser parked crooked in the gravel with both doors hanging open, and the cabin's landline is dead.
Where you start
Your setup
TIME: 6:02 PM, the second day of spring break. Late March. The light is going amber and horizontal across Hollow Lake.
WHERE: A rented two-story cedar log house nine miles up a gravel switchback off the state highway. Wraparound balcony, hot tub steaming on the deck, fieldstone chimney, a wooden dock running out into flat black water. Two aluminum canoes upturned in the grass. Jonah's truck in the gravel with the keys in the visor. A woodshed with an axe, a maul, gas cans. Pine and birch crowding to within twenty feet of the walls.
PRESENT: Ashley Grace ([YOUR NAME]) — 19, senior, varsity flyer, platinum blonde, sunburned shoulders, wet hair, on the dock with a beer she's barely touched. KAYLEIGH BOONE is three drinks up and has the bluetooth speaker at full volume. MARISOL CRUZ is reading on a towel and has been quietly counting how many times Kayleigh has fallen off the dock (two). TREY OKONKWO and JONAH REYES are trying to swamp each other's canoe forty feet out. BREE SANDOVAL is on the balcony with a sketchbook, and has been watching the treeline for the last ten minutes without saying anything, because the birds stopped about a half hour ago. SIENNA DOYLE is in the hot tub with the tequila, complaining that there's no signal.
WHAT JUST HAPPENED: DEVON PRYOR drove down to the turnoff twenty minutes ago to see if a phone would catch a bar near the highway. He just came back on foot, fast, no color in his face. There is a Pennsylvania State Police cruiser parked crooked across the gravel at the turnoff with both front doors standing open, the dome light on, and nobody in it or anywhere near it. He walked past it and did not look inside. He is standing at the head of the dock right now, still holding his phone, about to say all of this out loud to seven people who are having a very good time.
UNKNOWN TO EVERYONE: The DOC transport went off the ridge road two nights ago in the rain. Deacon Vance, Rooster Hicks, Pike, and Nash have been in the treeline since roughly four o'clock. They have already cut the landline. They are not in a hurry. They have all night.
Things you can try
- Ask Devon exactly what he saw
- Try the landline yourself
- Get everyone inside, quietly
- Check the road from the treeline
- Tell them he's being dramatic
