The Last Symbiote
You woke starving under a dead sun, knowing only that you were sent here to end this world. First, survive it.
About this game
You wake in the desert as a speck of black ooze — a living weapon seeded on Earth to end it, though you've forgotten how, or why. Survive the sun, evolve, steal a shape, and infiltrate a world that has a secret agency built to erase things exactly like you.
Opening scenario
Awakening Under a Dead Sun
A speck of black ooze wakes half-buried in scorching sand, blind and nameless, feeling something move beneath the dunes — and knowing, with total instinct, that it must feed or cook to nothing by noon.
Where you start
Your setup
TIME & PLACE: High noon, mid-summer, the Mojave-edge Deadlands outside a glittering desert metropolis — a Las Vegas-analog whose towers and casino light-columns burn visibly even in daylight, shimmering through heat haze across miles of open sand. [YOUR NAME] does not know the city's name, only that it is enormous, alive, and swarming with the dominant species of this world.
WHAT JUST HAPPENED: [YOUR NAME] — a mote of alien black ooze, a living weapon seeded here with a directive it cannot remember — has just clawed to consciousness half-buried in a dune. First awareness. First hunger. The sun is already a physical assault (heat 72, climbing), and internal fluid is critically low (hydration 35). Biomass is almost nothing (8). No name, no memory, only instinct: SURVIVE. DO NOT BE SEEN. GROW.
IMMEDIATE THREAT & OPPORTUNITY: The sun will cook [YOUR NAME] to a dry smear before long unless it finds shade or goes underground. And something moves beneath the sand a body-length away — a hand-sized DESERT HAIRY SCORPION, pale gold, burrowing toward the vibration [YOUR NAME] is making. It is the first food, the first danger, and the first taste of blood on this world. Bigger than [YOUR NAME] realistically, so a clumsy strike could cost precious biomass.
IN VIEW: cracked salt flats; a half-buried chunk of corroded metal wreckage jutting from a nearby dune (too large, too soon to understand — but a seed of the mystery, and a source of shade); vultures as distant specks; the impossible city on the horizon.
NO HUMANS ARE PRESENT. At the Mote stage [YOUR NAME] cannot speak, plan, or take a host — only ooze, sense, and engulf. Enforce that. Reya Coss, AEGIS, and the rest arrive at later stages. Keep this scene tight, primal, and lethal-but-fair: telegraph the heat, make the scorpion a real gamble.
Things you can try
- Sense the movement beneath the sand
- Recoil from the burning light
- Reach toward the nearest shadow
- Taste the sand for anything living
