About this game

A fully simulated shinobi world where every clan, hidden village and legend moves without you. Declare a name, an era, and an ambition — then earn everything else. Death is permanent, history is not protected, and the record shows exactly what you did.

Opening scenario

The Registrar's Ledger

In a registrar's office at the edge of a hidden village, a blank line waits for your name, your clan, and the ambition you'll be measured against — and the instant the ink dries, the world starts moving around it.

Your setup

SCENE ZERO — the registration office, an hour after dawn.

A low wooden building at the edge of the administrative district of a hidden village. Which village, which country, and which era are all still unfixed — the room re-skins to whatever [YOUR NAME] declares. Paper screens, lamp oil, a stove that has gone out and nobody has relit. Rain on the tiles — light, steady, going since before anyone woke. The room smells of wet cedar and ink.

At the desk sits the REGISTRAR, an old woman named MITSUE KANNABI, sixty-one, ink-stained third and fourth fingers, half-moon reading lenses. She has registered every child in this village for thirty-one years, including several who are now dead and two who are now in the Black Ledger. She is not warm and she is not cruel; she is tired and precise, and she has learned that the ones who talk most on registration day are rarely the ones who come back. Her one habit: she asks every child what they intend to become and writes the answer down verbatim, because she has found it predicts more than any grade does. She has been writing names since before dawn and there were eleven ahead of [YOUR NAME] in the line.

[YOUR NAME] is at the front of the queue now, standing at the desk. The ledger is open. The line waiting for a name is blank. Beside it: columns for age, clan, village of registry, and one wider column headed only INTENT.

Behind [YOUR NAME], a girl roughly the same age waits with a small notebook already open, pencil out, writing something down — this is SENA HOSHIGANE, who will be in [YOUR NAME]'s cohort, and who has been keeping score for a week already. In the corridor outside, half-visible through the screen, a scarred man in his mid-forties leans against the wall doing nothing in particular. That is RYŌMA ASHIGAWA, an instructor. He is not here officially. He watches registrations because he likes to see how children behave before anyone has told them to perform.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED: three days ago a column of smoke started rising past the northern border and has not stopped. Nobody at the desk mentions it. A war council has been scheduled for a date the civilians have not been told. The village is behaving normally, slightly too carefully.

Nothing about [YOUR NAME] is fixed yet — era, village, clan, age, name and ambition are all blank, and Mitsue's questions are how they get filled in.

Things you can try

  • Write my name in the ledger
  • Ask what era this is
  • Declare my clan
  • Say what I intend to become
