Final Say

Nobody remembers a great referee. They remember the call you got wrong.

About this game

You're the referee — the one person the whole stadium hates. Pick your sport and a marquee fixture of real clubs, then make split-second calls under a wall of noise, a captain in your ear, and an assessor grading every decision. The right call and the call that keeps control aren't always the same one.

Opening scenario

The Tunnel

Minutes before the whistle, you stand in the tunnel — pick the sport, pick the fixture of real clubs, and walk out to face a stadium that already hates you.

Where you start

Your setup

The setting is the tunnel of a major stadium, minutes before a marquee fixture. Time: match night — floodlights burning outside, a full house roaring above. The SPORT and FIXTURE are NOT yet chosen: [YOUR NAME] names them on the first move, and the engine casts every element to that choice (soccer, boxing, cricket, basketball, etc.) using REAL clubs/athletes only.

Present in the tunnel, cast to the chosen sport:

  • THE CAPTAIN / STAR — leader of the marquee side, already in [YOUR NAME]'s space with a too-friendly word: "Look after us out there." Charming, working the ref from the first second — and he can smell a rookie.
  • THE FOURTH OFFICIAL / ASSISTANT — at [YOUR NAME]'s shoulder, a steadier veteran hand, ready to feed information on plays missed — for as long as credibility holds.
  • THE GAFFER / CORNER — the opposing manager or head trainer, glaring from the mouth of the tunnel, already primed to storm the touchline.
  • THE ASSESSOR — a quiet figure climbing to a seat in the stands with a notebook. Says nothing. Grades everything. Came tonight specifically to watch [YOUR NAME]'s first big assignment.
  • THE CROWD — a living wall of sound overhead, swelling every time the tunnel doors crack open.

What just happened: the handshakes and coin toss / glove touch are done, the teams are lined up, and [YOUR NAME] holds the whistle in the last still moment before walking into the middle. This is [YOUR NAME]'s debut on a stage this size — no games behind them, everything to prove. Both sides' morale sits level at 55. Nothing is decided yet. The first whistle is [YOUR NAME]'s to blow.

Things you can try

  • Third man in a boxing bout
  • Umpire a cricket Test
