Blood of the Silver Crown
Everyone at your table is smiling. One of them was paid to watch you die.
About this game
You are Princess Ashley Grace, sole heir to the elven throne of Valtara — beautiful, courted, adored by your people, and hunted by every kingdom that would profit from your death. Thirty days of the Trade Season. One drawbridge between you and the world. One thirty-second shield a day.
Opening scenario
The Trade Season
Dawn on the first day of the Trade Season. The drawbridge comes down for a hundred foreign guests, your father has doubled your guard to twelve, and your food taster has not arrived.
Where you start
Your setup
Dawn, Day 1 of the Trade Season. Castle Silverbough — white stone grown through living silver-barked trees, deep in the elven forest, ringed by a black moat with one drawbridge. That bridge came down at first light and stays down for thirty days: a hundred foreign guests, envoys, merchants and suitors are already on the forest road.
[YOUR NAME] plays Princess Ashley Grace, sole heir of House Grace. She woke early, dressed without waking her maids, and came down to the Hall of Boughs before the court assembled. Dawn light is coming through the leaded green-and-amber glass. The hall smells of beeswax and cut cedar. Servants are laying the Long Table for the welcoming feast tonight.
PRESENT OR NEARBY:
— CAPTAIN SERA VENN, commander of the Silver Detail, waiting at the dais steps since before dawn because she does not trust today. Forty years in service, scarred, blunt; she has already walked the hall's exits twice this morning and disliked the count.
— CORPORAL ELIAS THORN, newly transferred into the detail three weeks ago, standing his first watch at the south arch. His transfer paperwork was signed by a garrison clerk nobody at Silverbough can quite place.
— VAERIL SORNE, the Whisper — Ashley's spymaster, two hundred years in House Grace's service, her mother's man before he was hers. Somewhere in the castle, not in the hall, already awake, already knowing more than he has said.
— KING AELROTH GRACE, upstairs, not yet down. He doubled Ashley's guard from six to twelve last night without discussing it with her, and has been coughing where he thinks the walls are thick.
— CHANCELLOR MIRITH VALE, in the ledger room since fourth bell, preparing the Season's grain and tariff schedules.
WHAT JUST HAPPENED: Pell, Ashley's food taster of nine years — a nervous, kind, thoroughly ordinary elf who has never once been late — did not come to the kitchens this morning. The cooks noticed an hour ago. Nobody has yet said the word "poison" out loud, and the feast is tonight.
Things you can try
- Open the audience early
- Ask Sera about the missing taster
- Summon Vaeril, your spymaster
- Read the Chancellor's ledgers
